Mohs Surgery

Mohs surgery is an advanced skin cancer removal treatment that is up to 99 percent effective. At Greenwich Point Dermatology, we are proud to offer Mohs surgery to patients in Greenwich, Stamford, and the neighboring communities in Fairfield County.

What is Mohs Surgery?

When many of our patients think of skin cancer removal, they think of a highly invasive surgical procedure that leaves holes in the skin or causes major scarring. Mohs surgery is an advanced and highly technical form of skin cancer removal that involves shaving off very thin layers of skin cancer until the entire affected area is removed. This specialized technique allows Dr. Berliner and our other physicians to ensure she has removed every part of the cancerous area without damaging any of the surrounding healthy tissue. Mohs surgery is up to 99 percent effective in treating non-melanoma skin cancer.

What Can I Expect During Mohs Surgery?

Your Mohs surgery will be performed by our very own Dr. Jaqueline Berliner in our state-of-the-art facility. Before your treatment begins, a local anesthetic will be applied to the treatment area. This is just to ensure you remain as comfortable as possible throughout your procedure. Dr. Berliner will then carefully and strategically shave off very thin layers of the affected area. Each thin layer will be examined to determine if more treatment needs to be performed. By the end of the surgery, your skin cancer will be removed and the rest of your surrounding tissue will be unharmed.

What Can I Expect After Mohs Surgery?

Mohs surgery is gentle enough that patients are able to return to their normal daily activities, including work or school, the following day. While bleeding and discomfort are normal, the surgery site generally heals within four to six weeks of treatment. Dr. Berliner may also stitch up your treated area to promote quicker and easier healing.

How Much Does Mohs Surgery Cost?

The cost of Mohs surgery at Greenwich Point Dermatology will vary depending on your health insurance plan.
