Our hair is such a marker of our identity, so the thinning or loss of hair can cause us to be self-conscious. Dr. Sarah Dolder at Greenwich Point Dermatology is committed to helping patients regenerate their hair by counseling them on lifestyle changes and offering innovative and proven solutions, such as platelet-rich plasma therapy (PRP).
About Hair Regeneration
The cause of hair thinning or hair loss varies from patient to patient from environmental stressors like blow-outs or hair-dyes to genetics, inadequate nutrition, or pregnancy. Other times, hair loss may be a sign of autoimmune diseases or infections. Whatever, the case, Dr. Dolder works to uncover the diagnosis and suggest the right treatment, from medicated shampoos, topical steroids, or prescription medications. Dr. Dolder is proud to offer the latest in hair restoration with platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy, an in-office treatment that delivers exceptional results for both men and women experiencing hair loss or thinning.
PRP therapy is an advanced technique that harnesses the rejuvenating properties of the proteins within your own blood to stimulate dormant hair follicles and repair hair growth cycles. Dr. Dolder uses the very best in PRP therapy with Purespin PRP®. This cutting-edge technology delivers the highest PRP yield through a double spin process, leading not only to superior skin rejuvenation results, but also minimum patient discomfort as finer needles are required for injection.
PRP for Hair Regeneration Treatment
Hair regeneration treatment with PRP therapy begins with a consultation with Dr. Dolder. She confirms the diagnosis and assesses injection placement.
Then, blood is drawn from the patient, and the platelets are separated and concentrated through centrifugation. Then, the platelets are injected back into targeted areas of the skin using microneedling. Because of the multi-step approach to this procedure, including waiting for topical anesthetic to become activated, PRP therapy takes around an hour.
PRP for Hair Regeneration Results
A series of three treatments, spaced about a month apart, is recommended for the best results. Dr. Dolder may also prescribe individually tailored topical formulations to complement the scalp PRP between treatments. Most patients then go on a maintenance schedule, with touch-up appointments every 4-6 months.
PRP for Hair Regeneration Side Effects & Recovery
It is not uncommon to feel a temporary tingling during PRP injections and slight bruising and tenderness afterwards, but ice packs can ease any discomfort. Most patients can return to their normal activities after PRP therapy. In order to give your follicles time to effectively heal and respond to the PRP infusion, it is best to avoid hair treatments or a scalp massage for about a week following treatment.
