NEW YEAR, NEW SKIN: Transform your skin with Contour TRL

As Board Certified Dermatologists, one of our main goals is to match our patient’s desire for refreshed, more radiant-looking skin while maintaining their natural features and beauty.  Deep laser resurfacing has proven itself time and time again as our go-to solution!  Contour TRL resurfacing treatment is redefining the standards of skin rejuvenation.

A New Era in Skin Rejuvenation

Contour TRL, or Tunable Resurfacing Laser, is at the forefront of dermatological advancements. It offers a level of precision and customization that is unparalleled, making it a preferred choice for our practice.  But what exactly makes Contour TRL a game-changer in the realm of skin treatments?

The Science of Transformation

At its core, Contour TRL is a laser treatment that meticulously targets the skin’s surface to address a spectrum of concerns. From the subtle etchings of time—fine lines and wrinkles—to the more pronounced effects of sun exposure and pigmentation, this treatment is designed to rejuvenate and restore with a precisely customized treatment.

The magic of Contour TRL harnesses the skin’s natural healing process. By removing the outer layers of damaged skin, it stimulates the production of new collagen, resulting in a fresh, new, more youthful complexion. The treatment is performed with precision depth and energy, ensuring that each session is tailored to the individual’s unique skin needs.

The Contour TRL Experience: What to Expect

For those considering Contour TRL, the journey begins with a comprehensive consultation. This is where the artistry of dermatology meets the science of skin care. Our Board Certified Dermatologists will assess your skin, discuss your aesthetic goals, and craft a personalized treatment plan. Expect downtime for this treatment as your skin will need at least two weeks to heal, which is why the winter months are the ideal time for the procedure.

Who is the Ideal Candidate for Contour TRL?

This treatment is particularly suited for patients who wish to rejuvenate their skin without the expense, risks and potential complications of a facelift.  It is ideal for patients wishing to address and correct:

  • Fine Lines and Deep Wrinkles
  • Sun Damage and Pigmentation
  • Uneven Texture, Enlarged Pores
  • Scars and Imperfections

The Verdict: TOTAL TRANSFORMATION

Body Boosters

After months under coats, sweaters and multiple layers, it’s no wonder that most people treat the skin on the body as an afterthought.  With spring just around the corner, we’re going beyond the basics of body wash and moisturizer and giving you all the details on how to care for the skin underneath the chin.

Our strategy uses a combination of treatments for maximum results. A sequence of treatments performed together has a synergistic effect, boosting one another, targeting different layers of the skin and therefore improving results.

We’ve also included a recommendation for topical products that are useful in conjunction with the treatments or for use on their own for age prevention. You can find all of the products we recommend (and use ourselves!)  in our Brilliant Boutique in Greenwich, CT.

NECK

Problem: Sagging skin

Solution: Hyperdilute Radiesse + Morpheus8

Hyperdilute Radiesse and Morpheus8 work together as a skin tightening and wrinkle-reducing duo that is especially effective on the thin skin of the neck and décolletage.

Radiesse is a dermal filler that when diluted, stimulates collagen production and effectively minimizes fine lines while restoring volume and fullness. Morpheus8 is a non-invasive micro needling therapy that harnesses radiofrequency that penetrates subnormal layers of the skin to sculpt and contour.  Their combined power does double duty for the best skin tightening results.

Product We Love:
SkinMedica Neck Correct: a powerfully effective serum uniquely designed to prevent and address the visible signs of neck aging. This luxurious serum is clinically proven to visibly lift, firm, and smooth the skin.

CHEST

Problem: Sunspots + crepiness

Solution: Lumecca + Halo + Morpheus8

We bring out the big guns to treat the delicate décolleté area.  A triple threat against sun damage and aging skin, we combine Morpheus8 with Lumecca IPL and Halo Laser Resurfacing to remove stubborn pigmentation and age spots. This trifecta offers deep dermal rejuvenation and produces stunning results that include improved skin tone, texture and tightness.

Product We Love:
Alastin Neck Complex: Specifically formulated to address the unique challenges of the delicate skin on the neck and décolleté, Alastin’s TriHex Technology® supports the skin’s natural ability to produce new elastin and collagen.

HANDS

Problem: Sunspots and visible aging

Solution: Lumecca + Clear & Brilliant

Like the neck and décolleté, the hands are one of the first areas on the body that unmasks aging skin. Why? Our hands are exposed to UV rays everyday! Our solution? The combination of Lumecca IPL with Clear & Brilliant. Together they produce a synergistic benefit that waves goodbye to stubborn pigmentation and sun damage on the hands.

Product We Love:
Irene Forte Pomegranate Hand Cream: This luxurious formula contains Irene  Multi-Oil Omega Complex that nourishes and supports the skin’s barrier to environmental stress.

ARMS & STOMACH

Problem: Cellulite and loose skin

Solution: Morpheus8 Body

You may have noticed that we recommend Morpheus8 a lot for the face and body – and it’s with good reason!  This treatment penetrates the deep layers of the skin tissue and fat to alter, or “morph” the physical properties of our body or face, and creates a smoother contour.  Morpheus8 Body reduces the appearance of cellulite, tightens the skin and eliminates pockets of fat in the treated area to give you a better contour with a youthful texture and tone. It’s ideal for anywhere on the body, but we especially love the results on the abdomen and arms.

These results can be seen within days after your treatment; however, your skin will continue to produce and generate new collagen over the following 3-6 months – which brings you right into summer 😉

Product We Love:
Body Tightening Cream: Our in-house formulation of Tretinoin and Niacinamide works to
speed up skin cell turnover and helps to boost collagen production on the skin. This medical-grade formulation is the best topical treatment to keep skin firm and toned.

KNEES:

Problem: Sagging skin

Solution: Hyperdilute Radiesse + Morpheus 8 Body

We approach the knees in a similar way we treat the neck – with the collagen-boosting combo of Hyperdilute Radiesse and Morpheus8 Body. With a series of  treatments, the skin around the knees will lift and tighten. Soon enough you’ll be moving your mini dresses and skirts to the front of your closet!

Product We Love:
Neocutis Neo Body: This anti-aging body moisturizer smooths rough texture and reduces crepiness with a luxurious, scientifically advanced formula. Neocutis Neo Body Restorative Body Cream nourishes skin with hyaluronic acid, ceramides, cholesterol and a proprietary Micro Protein Complex (MPC) to boost collagen and firm skin.

LEGS:

Problem: Spider Veins and unwanted hair

Solution: Vasculaze and Diolaze (laser hair removal)

Varicose and spider veins develop when tiny, one-way valves inside the veins weaken. Though there’s not much one can do to prevent spider veins from occurring (a lot is genetics), our Vasculaze laser is a sure fire way to eliminate these pesky spider veins. It works by using intense pulsed light (IPL) to target appropriate hemoglobin and close up the small spider veins on the surface of the skin. Prepare for beach-ready legs in 3-4 treatments.

Our summer motto:  No shaving. No hair, no problems. This is why we love Diolaze, our medical-grade laser hair removal treatment. Gone are the red bumps, irritation, ingrown hairs, stubble and “darn I forgot to shave” moments. Your legs (or any area of your body with unwanted hair) will be smooth skin sailing after a series of treatments.

Product We Love: Irene Forte White Wine Body Cream: A hydrating cream that is chock-full of natural and science backed ingredients to refresh and soften the skin. This includes Sicilian Organic White Wine, Hyaluronic Acid, Pro-Vitamin B5 and Beech Bud to help hydrate and condition. Vitamin E, Grapeseed Oil, Sweet Almond Oil and Olive Oil work to support the skin’s natural barrier to environmental stress.

5 Winter Skin Savers from a Board-Certified Dermatologist

It’s January, everyone’s favorite month (said no one ever!).  The dry, cold climate coupled with the aftermath of a December filled with savory foods and alcohol, can leave skin looking as dreary as the weather. While diet, lack of sleep and environmental factors can have a dramatic effect on the skin, there are simple ways to get your skin back on track.

Dr. Gaines-Cardone offered these tips that she shares often with her patients at Greenwich Point Dermatology.

  1. Less is more. The skincare industry is a billion dollar industry for a reason. A lot of marketing and advertising that specifically targets younger consumers, encourages the use of different ingredients. Products that are meant to hydrate and create glow, can oftentimes be harsh and irritating. In winter, it is especially important to stick with ingredients that are gentle and simplify your routine. A cleanser, serums or actives, moisturizer and spf are all you need to get your skin back on track.
  2. Optimize your ingredients. Make sure you are using high quality ingredients, not just what is being touted on you tube and tik tok. Just because your best friend is using it, doesn’t mean it is right for you. There are specific products and prescriptions that target concerns like hyperpigmentation, redness, fine lines, etc. Consult with your dermatologist to determine the ingredients best for your skin type.
  3. Cut back on your cleanser, up your moisturizer. Just like your wardrobe, changes need to be made as the seasons change. In the winter, with the low humidity and forced hot air, the skin quickly dries out and is prone to irritation. Swab out a foaming cleanser for a hydrating one (we like Alastin Gentle Cleanser)  Use a more emolliating night cream or double up and use your night moisturizer both morning and night. Just make sure your nighttime moisturizer does not contain a retinol, that is for PM only.
  4. Resolve to wear sunscreen everyday. Not just in the summer. Not just when the sun is out. But everyday. If possible, add something with a tint. We like MD Solar Sciences Tinted Mineral Creme (find your shade in our Brilliant Boutique). We are starting to understand that visible light (ie. overhead light and blue light from cell phones and computer screens) can accelerate the photoaging process. Ideally, sunscreen should be applied daily to the face, neck and chest.
  5. Restore your glow with laser resurfacing. Highly customizable to your goals and lifestyle, laser resurfacing can target different depths of the skin to address multiple aging concerns at once, including uneven texture, sun damage and revitalizing collagen growth. It packs a one-two punch on dull winter skin.  Try Halo for glowing skin after only a few days of downtime, or a Microlaser Peel for deeper repair that reveals incredible results.

Our Brilliant Boutique is stocked with everything you need to streamline your skincare routine.  We recommend making an appointment with one of our Board Certified Dermatologists for a personalized consultation to discuss the specific products and cosmetic treatments that are right for you.  Book an appointment by calling 203.764.2230.

Erase the Summer from Your Skin

While it’s time to say goodbye to the carefree days of summer and settle into fall routines, don’t be surprised if the effects of the sun are still lingering on your skin. Take action to combat  pigmentation, dullness, breakouts, fine lines…. and get ready to glow into fall.

Start Your Skincare Toolkit

  • Add antioxidants to your skincare routine.

Promote a brighter, more even complexion with free radical fighting ingredients like Vitamin C, E and B3. These wrinkle reducing, skin-brightening antioxidants work to combat oxidative stress and repair damaged skin cells caused by exposure to UV rays. Though there are many antioxidants to choose from, we like Vitamin C for its science backed research on its collagen-boosting and skin-brightening properties.

TIP:  Apply in the morning to improve the effectiveness of your SPF!

TRY:  Skin Better Science Alto Advanced Defense + Repair serum.  We love that this product goes beyond C and E to include 17 additional super-potent antioxidants. Find this product in our Brilliant Boutique!

  • Be consistent with applying retinoids

Retinoids are a derivative of Vitamin A, which increases cell turnover. Retinoids are considered the holy grail of most skincare regimens as they are proven to improve skin texture and tone, and reduce fine lines and smooth wrinkles. We recommend using a retinoid at night, to avoid the deactivation from direct sun exposure.

TIP: Our Board-Certified Dermatologists can prescribe various strengths of retinoic acid to produce the most effective results for your skin. Book your appointment by calling 203.764.2230.

TRY: If you’re sensitive to retinoids, try the “Retinol Sandwich” application technique. Apply a thin layer of moisturizer to freshly washed skin, then add a pea size amount of retinoid over your cheeks, forehead and chin (avoid the mouth area as that tends to be the most sensitive), and layer again with moisturizer to seal in hydration.

  • Hydrate, Hydrate, Hydrate

When it comes to getting—and maintaining—a great complexion, what we feed our bodies is just as important as what we put on our skin. The drying effects of summer can call for an extra dose of hydration. We recommend tackling it both topically with nourishing serums and moisturizes and by making more mindful food choices.

TIP:  Essential fatty acids such as omega-3s help your cells stay hydrated. Salmon, walnuts, flaxseeds and chia seeds all include a healthy dose of omega 3’s to moisturize your skin from the inside out and protect your skin barrier to keep away irritants and free radicals.

TRY: Skin Better Science’s Trio Rebalancing Moisture Treatment. This 3x Allure Magazine award winning triple-action formula helps to bring moisture and hydration balance back to skin. You can find Skin Better Science products in our Brilliant Boutique.

Professional Treatments with Results That Deliver

  • Lumecca (IPL) Photofacial Treatment

This device’s light energy uses wavelength and frequency to target facial redness, brown spots and freckles on the face, neck, décolletage, hands, arms, and even legs. This little to no-downtime treatment consistently delivers rave results and reveals radiant skin in about a week. Depending on your sun damage and skin care needs, a series of treatments may be recommended for the best and brightest results.

  • Clear & Brilliant

Our most gentle laser, Clear & Brilliant, resurfaces the skin by stimulating the body’s natural processes to replace old, damaged cells with new cells. This not only brightens skin tone, removes sun spots and reduces pore size, but it also stimulates collagen production to rejuvenate the skin. As the results from Clear & Brilliant compound, the most successful transformations occur after 3 treatments, each about 4 weeks apart.

  • HALO Laser

This deeper and more robust laser treatment targets the outer layer of the skin by  removing sun damage and hyperpigmentation, and refining skin tone and texture, while simultaneously targeting the deeper, unseen layers of the skin underneath. This dual action technology shows improvements to skin tone and texture in as early as five days, with deep dermal regeneration and collagen stimulation over the next several weeks.

PRO TIP: For more enhanced results, combine Lumecca with Clear & Brilliant or Lumecca with HALO. The combined treatments build off of each other to produce results including smoother skin tone and texture and an overall more youthful appearance!

A Dermatologist’s Travel Beauty Advice

Summer travel is in full swing and while it feels great to be off to explore different parts of the world and out of our day-to-day routines, it’s been a while since taking care of our skin while on-the-go was part of our normal repertoire.

Use our skin-loving timeline to prep and pack for your next voyage. Our practical advice is inspired by Dr. Dolder’s recent trip to visit her home country of Australia. Several stopovers and 29 hours in a mask and can wreak havoc on your skin!

Before You Go: Skincare Pack and Prep

As you embark on your travels, start with your skin off on a clean slate. Exfoliate with an Alpha Hydroxy Acid (AHA) a few days prior to travel. Treatment with an AHA helps to increase skin turnover and remove debris. Eliminating a layer of skin cells makes your skin more vulnerable to penetration from UVA and UVB rays from the sun, so be sure to remember your SPF!

Pro Tip: For optimal exfoliation, book a gentle Chemical Peel two weeks prior to travel. Our Glytone Peels are gentle and excellent for patients who want brighter, more radiant looking skin.

With record travel numbers this summer, canceled flights are inevitable. Be prepared and pack your skincare essentials in your carry-on for easy access and in the chance you may not get to your checked bag. A travel size serum and moisturizer will do the trick!

Pro Tip: Moisten cotton pads with Micellar Water (Dr. Dolder swears by ISDN) and put in a zip lock bag in your carryon. This will fare much better for cleansing your skin than face wipes and can be easily put in a carryon – liquid requirements be darned!

Skincare On the Road and in the Skies

On the day of travel, we recommend applying a Hyaluronic Acid serum to freshly cleansed skin to prevent dryness (Neocutis Hyalis is our go-to). Follow the serum with a moisturizer that contains ceramides (we like Alastin Ultra Nourishing Moisturizer ) to lock moisture in as a protective barrier.

Pro Tip: Don’t wear makeup on the plane. If you’re wearing a mask (and we recommend that you do), board the aircraft with freshly cleansed, moisturized skin. Wearing makeup under a mask, regardless of the amount of hours, can clog pores and cause breakouts.

Stay hydrated!  Our purse is always packed with a travel sized face mist whether we are home or away. On a daily basis, mists with hyaluronic acid and the right antioxidants help protect your skin from pollutants that can cause the skin to break down and begin to age. When we travel, using a face mist throughout the day is not only beneficial to the skin, it’s a great pick-me-up! Be sure to choose a mist that does not contain alcohol, as this is drying to your skin. And don’t forget to drink tons of water!

Pro Tip: Add a packet of electrolyte powder to your carryon. Easily pour it into your water bottle for extra nutrients. Christina, our Physicians Assistant, recommends LMNT packets for healthy hydration on-the-go!

Bon Voyage!

Summer Skin Issues… Solved!

Summer is here! Cue the pool parties and beach getaways, camping trips, sundresses, iced matcha lattes and long evenings spent on the porch. But as the temperatures rise, so does the occurrence of bug bites, rashes, warts, sunburns and a host of other skin issues.  Let’s face it, your skin can suffer during the summer months!

Which is why we put together a handy guide from our Board Certified Dermatologists to have at the ready this summer season.

Summer Skin Survival Guide for the Whole Family

Insect Bites:

Luckily most bug bites are more annoying than they are harmful, except if they become infected by bacteria and fungus from overly scratching. If that’s the case, the best way to head off infection is by cleaning the bite with soap and water, applying an antibiotic cream, and covering it with a bandage. A hydrocortisone cream will help with the itch. The bug spray we recommend is OFF! (because it works! And we feel confident in the safety data).

Poisonous Plants:

Poison ivy, poison oak, and sumac contain urushiol, a resin that can cause a bumpy, blistery, and very itchy rash. The best way to prevent exposure is learning how to identify these plants. We like the app PictureThis to help identify plant species, including the poisonous kind. If you do make contact with the leaves from one of these plants, quickly wash the area with soap, water and a washcloth. Be sure to only use the washcloth on the treated area so not to spread to other areas of the skin. Apply a topical ointment like Lucas Papaya ointment to soothe skin. If the rash is severe or on the face, make an appointment to come to the office as you may need oral steroid treatment to control the inflammation and prevent long term nerve complications.

Warts:

The nemesis of all mom’s during the summer months, warts become super common on  kids from days spent barefoot in public places like pools and beaches. Treating warts promptly will help them from spreading to other parts of the body. Buy a wart medicine with 17% salicylic acid (such as our own “V cream”). Apply the acid once a day to the top of the wart. Since it’s an acid, avoid getting any near the eyes or mouth and try to keep it off the normal skin. The acid will turn the wart into dead skin. If you or your child has multiple or stubborn warts that aren’t responding to treatment, make an appointment with our providers for professional removal.

Sunburn:

We know it’s highly unlikely you or your kids will get a sunburn this summer since you’re diligent about SPF, but we get it, accidents happen 😉 If you do find yourself sunburned, start by taking frequent cool baths or showers to alleviate pain and moisturize using a topical hydrocortisone for anti-inflammatory benefits.  If the pain is particularly bothersome, consider taking ibuprofen to reduce swelling and discomfort. During the next few days it’s crucial to keep the skin covered with clothing (try our chic Acqua rash guards sold at our office),  stay in the shade, and resist the urge to pop any bubbles that start to surface on the skin. These are protective barriers from infection so it’s important to leave the skin to heal on its own.

Additionally, our Omnilux LED treatment is brilliant for healing skin and inducing the anti-inflammatory cells of the skin.  So swing by the office twice a week for a 20 minute LED session to help recover from a sunburn.

Summer Breakouts:

Outdoor exercise, sunscreen applications, and longer hours spent in the heat increase the risk of the skin producing extra sebum, causing pores to clog and leading to breakouts. Resist the urge to over cleanse as this can strip the skin of important skin-balancing oils, and instead look for products with anti-inflammatory ingredients like niacinamide. Incorporate regular exfoliation with AHA’s or BHA’s (like our Gly-Sal glow pads)  in your summer skincare routine along with the use of non-comedogenic SPF products. We like Elta MD and MD Solar Sciences sold at our Brilliant Boutique.

Lackluster Skin:

Although summer is the time to kick back and relax, we don’t recommend completely abandoning your healthy skin habits. Combat dull and irritated skin during the summer months by drinking a ton of water to keep the skin hydrated. For an added boost, try Aethern, a drinkable collagen supplement that our team is obsessed with, that contains critical vitamins and micronutrients, which play a vital role in cell regeneration and protection.  Aethern is also available for purchase at our office.

Regular facials for deep cleansing and purifying (try our Irene Forte signature facials with Brittany!).  We also love Forma, our personal favorite for skin-remodeling (it feels like a hot-stone massage for your face), and will keep your skin glowing all summer long.

Book an appointment with our doctors and providers this summer by calling  203.764.2230 or put a request in through our website www.greenwichpointdermatology.com

Welcome Back Collagen

No matter how much we exercise, how well we eat, or what we do to take care of our skin on a daily basis, as years progress, our skin loses collagen and elastin. The aging process is inevitable and, unfortunately, outside of our control.

Say it isn’t so!

The Science Behind Collagen Break Down

Collagen is a protein produced in the human body and is referred to as the “glue” that holds our body together. Our bodies produce collagen naturally, and our skin is in a constant state of balancing collagen production and degradation. When we are young, our bodies produce more collagen than we break down. That changes as we age because tissue regeneration decreases and collagen breaks down faster than new tissue is produced.

What happens to the skin when there is a breakdown of collagen?  Fine lines appear, wrinkles become more apparent, and a laxity of the skin starts to appear.

So what can you do when the collagen scale begins to tip?

Enter Morpheus8, the most advanced radiofrequency microneedling device on the market that incorporates fractional energy to deliver heat to the deeper layers of the skin to stimulate collagen production.

Morpheus8 differs from other radio frequency devices as it has the power to deliver radiofrequency up to three times the depth of older technology.  It penetrates the deep layers of the skin tissue and fat to alter, or “morph” the physical properties of our body or face, and creates a smoother contour.

Morpheus8 in Greenwich, CT

Morpheus8 uses two applicator tips to produce impressive skin tightening and resurfacing results. The first tip consists of 24k gold micro-needles that penetrate the skin to induce the body’s natural healing mechanism using radiofrequency energy.

The second tip contains an ablative resurfacing tip to heat the skin’s surface and deeper layers. This dual-modality treatment quickly and effectively tightens, smooths, and strengthens skin from deep within to produce more substantial and longer-lasting results.

Morpheus8 in Greenwich, CT

We’re thrilled to now offer Morpheus8 Body at Greenwich Point Dermatology

Morpheus8 Body stimulates collagen production the same way it does for the face and can target larger surface areas like the abdomen, back of the arms, knees, hips and thighs.  It reduces the appearance of cellulite and tightens the skin.  Morpheus8 Body also eliminates pockets of fat in the treated area to give you a better contour with a youthful texture and tone.

Visible results can be seen within days after your treatment; however, your skin will continue to produce and generate new collagen over the following 3 months. Improvements continue for over 6 months!

Your Skin Cancer Prevention Plan

Sun damage catches up with you!  No matter how diligent you are with sunscreen now, the sun-burned skin of summer’s past plays a critical role in your risk for developing skin cancer today.  And we are all at risk!

  • 1 in 5 Americans will develop skin cancer by age 70
  • 2 people die of skin cancer every hour.
  • Your risk of melanoma doubles if you’ve had more than 5 sunburns in your lifetime
  • When detected early, the 5-year survival rate from skin cancer is 99%
  • A 15-minute skin check appointment can save your life!

The good news is there is a lot you can do to help minimize your chance of serious illness from skin cancer.  In honor of Skin Care Awareness month, we’ve put together an action plan to safeguard your skin!

Your Skin Cancer Prevention Plan

Yearly Skin Checks: We highly recommend an annual skin cancer screening with one of our Board Certified Dermatologists.  If you have a personal or family history of skin cancer, or a history of tanning bed use, we recommend a visit twice a year to ensure early detection.

Full Body Photography: Keep track of your moles using cutting-edge SkinIO technology. This app-based technology uses artificial intelligence to photograph and monitor pre-cancers during and in between visits with your dermatologist. Having a smart digital skin health record with photos and dermoscopic images is a game-changer for early skin cancer detection.

Photodynamic Therapy:  Precancerous lesions, otherwise known as actinic keratoses, can be eliminated and prevented with photodynamic therapy, or PDT, which uses the blue light wavelength to react with a topical preparation to destroy precancerous cells. We use this treatment on high-risk patients to reverse sun damage and prevent precancerous and skin cancer lesions

Sunscreen: Sun exposure causes skin cancer so it’s no surprise that sunscreen is an essential part of our skin cancer prevention plan. Plus, with everyday use, not only will you be protecting your skin from cancer,  you’ll be preventing the signs of aging – win/win! The best sunscreen is the one you will wear everyday, just be sure it’s SPF 30 or above.  We have many formulas for a variety of skin types in our Brilliant Boutique.  Visit us to view our carefully curated sunscreen selection.

Skin cancer should always be taken seriously, and your skin check appointments are essential to your long term health.  Most annual skin checks are covered by insurance.  Call us to  schedule your skin exam with our Board Certified Dermatologists!

Meet Dr. Meghan O’Brien, Board Certified Dermatologist at Greenwich Point Dermatology

We are overjoyed that Dr. Meghan O’Brien has joined Greenwich Point Dermatology!  Dr. Dolder and Dr. O’Brien worked together for many years in New York City and have stayed close friends ever since.  In addition to being a Harvard educated Board Certified Dermatologist, she also trained in advanced cosmetic procedures.  We sat down with Dr. O’Brien to learn more about her passion for skincare.

Why did you decide to practice Dermatology?

Dermatology is a unique field of medicine that allows me to see patients of all ages, treat a variety of skin conditions and skin cancer and utilize amazing technology and advances that have lead to laser and other cosmetic procedures.

What are some of the highlights of your career?

Being accepted into a dermatology residency program is one of my highlights of my career, as that was the day it all began.  Dermatology has become a very competitive specialty in the past 2 decades and I am so thankful that I was able to practice this medical specialty that I love.

What are three things a patient can do to maintain healthy skin?

1. Wear SPF every single day of the year.
2. As an adult get a yearly full body exam by a board certified dermatologist.
3. As with most things health related, what you choose to eat can affect your skin.  Choose foods rich in anti-oxidants, omega-3 fatty acids and beta carotene, like berries, salmon, avocado and colored vegetables.

What are the most common cosmetic procedures that you perform and why?

Botox is the most common cosmetic procedure in the US and my practice is no different, this is the most common procedure that I do.  Other common procedures include injectable fillers and laser and resurfacing procedures.

What’s a must-have product that you can’t live without?

My skin care regimen relies on using a prescription retinoid every night, this is one of the most proven anti-aging ingredients.  I adjust my other products from time to time based on the latest technology but the retinoid is the constant.

Best advice you’ve ever received?

Be a life-long learner!  There are so many advances in dermatology every year that if one doesn’t try to keep up you will become dated in the way you treat patients.  I find it thrilling to learn new ways to treat skin conditions or improve skin appearance and health.

If you had a free day with no responsibilities, how would you spend it?

I would spend it outside with my husband and 2 young boys, ideally at the beach.  Despite being a dermatologist, I love the beach (of course that includes SPF, a big hat, UPF clothing and umbrellas!).

Call our office to book a medical or cosmetic appointment with Dr. O’Brien.  Click here to read her full bio.  If you have any skincare questions for Dr. O’Brien comment below or email us at marketing@greenwichpointderm.com
